Courses in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light Pre-enrolment Information

The Australian College of Laser Therapy ( ACLT) offers courses in IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and Laser protocols.

Our courses are recognized by all regulatory bodies in Australia and New Zealand where licencing is required. Our training is also recognized by all insurers.

  • A Guide to Dermaplaning

Our courses will provide you with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling you to treat confidently and safely. They are particularly necessary when purchasing a second-hand device and training is not provided.

On completion you will be deemed insurable practitioners and be recognized for licensing within Australian jurisdictions.

Certificates of Completion are provided at the successful completion of each course.

On completion of your practical course we offer 4 hours mentoring to support you in your career. (Valued at $880.00 plus GST) Additional hours are priced at $220.00 per hour plus GST

Course Prerequisites

There are currently no prerequisites needed to commence your journey as a laser or IPL practitioner, however some jurisdictions within Australia have licensing requirements and we have detailed these requirements below.

If you wish to participate in practical training, you must first have completed an Australian /New Zealand Standards based Laser Safety Certificate.

Although, there are no formal entry requirements for this course, learners will need sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills to complete the course.

Your Trainer

  • Is a nationally accredited trainer with over 20 years hands on experience in the application of laser treatments.
  • Has written both accredited and non- accredited training courses that are recognized throughout Australia.
  • Is a licensed laser practitioner in all states of
  • All practical training hours can be logged for students who intend to practice in all jurisdictions where this is a requirement.
  • Is still a current clinical practitioner who has personally delivered more than 30,000 hours in laser treatments.

Training Methods

We offer both self-paced online theory and face to face practical training.

Learners receive engaging visual learning content teamed with comprehensive trainer support.

Course Structure - Theoretical

The theoretical component can be done in your own time, at your own pace with easy-to-follow learning modules.

Online Courses

Please note that your invitation will be cancelled if the course is not completed within 12 months of being sent to you. A fee will be incurred equal to the current published cost of the course required.

Course Structure – Practical

Once you have successfully completed the theoretical component of your course, including your Laser Safety Certificate, you are ready to start face to face treatments, under our observation and guidance.

This can be completed at our campus in Adelaide, South Australia, or a workplace of your choosing using your own device. (Travel expenses including flight, ground costs and accommodation are payable by the student)

In recognition of busy lifestyles, each specialist unit has been designed to be completed in one full day of theory and practical application. Allow 6 -8 hours.

Our practical courses include client consultations, contraindications of treatment and observation of appropriate endpoints for safe treatments.

Course Materials

To protect our planet, all course learning guides are provided to you digitally or accessible online. However, if required, hard copy learning guides are available at an additional cost of $120.00 for each unit.

Practical training

Practical training in the following modalities is available subject to the meeting of the appropriate prerequisite online certification. Each Unit takes one day of practical training and observation.

Tattoo Removal Treatments (inclusive of theory) $1580.00
Hair Reduction Treatments (inclusive of theory) $1580.00
Skin Treatments (inclusive of theory) (Pigmentation, Vascular Conditions, Anti-ageing) $1580.00

Choose more than one course to be completed on consecutive days, 15% reduction in fee applies to each additional course.

A 15% reduction in cost for each additional student is available. To maintain a high quality of training and participation, a maximum number of students will apply.

Students are to provide their own models for practical sessions unless otherwise arranged with the College.

The more models you have, the more practical experience will be available on the day, improving your skill and confidence in both treatment technique, observations, and consultation. We believe a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 models can be achieved in your day of training.

Individual courses can be designed to suit your needs with prior consultation with the College. Fees will be quoted individually.

Additional costs may apply if you have obtained a Laser Safety Certificate through another education provider. A certified copy of your existing certification will need to be provided to us prior to commencement of any practical training.

Support During and After Your Training

Throughout your study, you will be able to access your trainer and assessor for assistance and support. On completion you will continue to receive mentoring and support to ensure you move forward confidently in your practice.

Travel and Accommodation

If you wish us to travel to your own clinic for training on your own device, agreed reasonable travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the learner and payable prior to the scheduled training.

Current Australian Laser Qualification and Licencing Requirements

There are no qualification prerequisites to commence your study in laser application, however some jurisdictions in Australia require that you hold a licence prior to beginning your practice. The requirements as of January 2024 are detailed below. Please refer to the state in which you intend to practice.

South Australia

You do not need any pre qualifications for using a laser however you will require a Laser Safety Certificate as the minimum requirement and to be insurable. Although supervised hours are not required to commence your practical laser experience we do recommend maintaining a log book of your hours as below.

New South Wales

You do not need any pre qualifications for using a laser however you will require a Laser Safety Certificate as the minimum requirement and to be insurable. Although supervised hours are not required to commence your practical laser experience we do recommend maintaining a log book of your hours as below.

Victoria

You do not need any pre qualifications for using a laser however you will require a Laser Safety Certificate as the minimum requirement and to be insurable. Although supervised hours are not required to commence your practical laser experience we do recommend maintaining a log book of your hours as below.

Australian Capital Territory

You do not need any pre qualifications for using a laser however you will require a Laser Safety Certificate as the minimum requirement and to be insurable. Although supervised hours are not required to commence your practical laser experience.

Northern Territory

You do not need any pre qualifications for using a laser however you will require a Laser Safety Certificate as the minimum requirement and to be insurable. Although supervised hours are not required to commence your practical laser experience.

Queensland

You will be required to compete a Laser Safety Certificate and Infection Control Certificate from approved training bodies such as ACLT. Once completed you are required to apply for a trainee licence and complete a log of required hours under a fully licenced practitioner, such as our trainers. The number of hours required are:
  • 25 hours for hair removal
  • 50 hours for skin rejuvenation (including superficial pigmentation adjustment)
  • 50 hours for superficial capillary reduction
  • 100 hours for tattoo removal
Once this has been completed, you may apply for your user licence with Queensland Health

Western Australia

Although no qualifications are required to You will be required to obtain an approved Laser Safety Certificate, such as the one provided by ACLT. You will need qualifications as a Doctor, Beauty Therapist or a Registered Nurse for laser use in tattoo removal as well as a tattoo removal course. You will need to complete a logbook of supervised hours:
  • 25 hours for hair removal
  • 50 hours for skin rejuvenation (including superficial pigmentation adjustment)
  • 50 hours for superficial capillary reduction
  • 100 hours for tattoo removal
Once this has been completed, you may apply for your user licence with The Radiological Council of Western Australia.

Tasmania

You do not need any prior qualifications, but you will need a Laser Safety Certificate for use with laser and/or Intense Pulsed Light. You will need to demonstrate to the Radiation Health Department that you have adequate clinical supervision from a full licence holder to be able to practice independently.

Logging Laser Procedures

Below is a sample of the Queensland Health Log for Cosmetic Laser Procedures.

We recommend that all new laser users maintain a similar log on commencement of their career, should licencing become a prerequisite in other states.

Practical Classes

  • Fees are payable in full fourteen (14) days prior to your confirmed date of practical training (unless otherwise arranged and confirmed in writing with the College)

Cancellation

  • Fees are non-refundable if you cancel within seven (7) days of your scheduled training, however you may be able to transfer to a future course if available., credit may be offered for participation in future courses.
  • Should you fail to attend on your confirmed training date without prior notice to the college, no refund will be payable or credit offered
